“The readymade grid is an intermediary in the sense that it slows or interrupts gesture. Serra too tries to reduce gesture in a way with the mesh screens. For me, gesture will always out, somehow. Even if one tries to make anonymous marks, or use anonymous structures, something of the self and its vulnerability will always be in the work.”
